Shakespeare Inspired Branding
SHAKESPEARE INSPIRED: SPEAKING TO A NEW AUDIENCE
When approached by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, the question we asked ourselves wasn’t ‘to be, or not to be’, but ‘to brand, and how to brand?’
BRANDING THE BARD
It was stipulated right at the beginning of the project that this was to be a different take on Shakespeare.
Our brief included a focus on Shakespeare’s seal – one of many authentic relics held in the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Collection – but outlined the need for a brand not too classically Shakespearean. Our design route needed to be contemporary, uplifting and pure. It needed to be new. We named the brand Shakespeare Inspired, and set about crafting a look with present-day appeal but historic heart.
THE NIGHTCAP PATTERN
The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust were keen to include a pattern as an integral brand element, an asset that could intertwine and connect different product types and subranges.
Drawing inspiration from another key item in the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Collection, we created the Nightcap pattern. Following Elizabethan garden patterning, the Nightcap pattern is quintessentially English, nostalgic and yet contemporary enough to work within brief.
Following the celebrated launch of Shakespeare Inspired at The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford-upon-Avon, the brand continues to sell with steady success.
“WE WERE REALLY PLEASED WITH THREE MONKEY’S VISION AND HOW THEY WORKED WITH US TO ARRIVE AT THE PERFECT LOOK.”
